Hi I’m Jess!

International Board Certified Lactation Consultant and Family Nurse Practitioner

The very first thing I want you to know about me is that I truly love what I do.I see you and your baby as individuals, each with your own story, needs, and goals. There is no one-size-fits-all approach here. My care is built around you, your baby, and what matters most to your family.

I’m a Family Nurse Practitioner, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and Perinatal Mental Health Certified provider—but more importantly, I’m someone who believes mothers deserve to be cared for, too.

I have proudly spent the last 9 years working at Sentara Leigh leading their lactation department. Over the years I have sat beside women during some of the most vulnerable moments of motherhood. I’ve celebrated the victories, sat with the tears, worked through difficult feeds, listened to the fears that are sometimes hard to say out loud, and reminded more than a few moms that their well-being matters just as much as their baby’s

My approach goes beyond simply asking, “How is the baby feeding?” I want to know how you are doing. I believe good care means listening to the whole story, taking your concerns seriously, and making sure you feel heard, validated, and supported—not rushed through an appointment or handed a generic plan.

My passion for supporting mothers through both lactation and perinatal mental health has also given me the opportunity to bring these conversations into our community. I was featured by WTKR News 3 in a story highlighting Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) and the importance of recognizing and supporting maternal mental health. I was also honored as a WTKR News 3 Hometown Hero for my work supporting women and families.

I was later invited to join WAVY-TV's Parenting Unscripted podcast for the episode Healthy Moms, where we talked about the behavioral health side of motherhood and why caring for mom needs to be part of the conversation.

When you invite me into your home and your motherhood journey, you aren't simply getting lactation support. You're getting someone who will listen to you, validate you, and empower you as you find your way through motherhood.

But behind all of the credentials and recognition, I’m also a proud mom to three beautifully FERAL children!

I have two amazing teenagers and a wild snuggle monster that is 6! I’ve been married to my favorite retired Coastie for 23 years and counting, and I’m also a proud Coast Guard veteran.

I’m a lover of all things pastry, nature and romantasy books (where are my ACOTAR girlies at?).

My passion for supporting mothers is deeply personal because I’ve been in the trenches, too. I’ve raised kids while my husband was out to sea, navigated postpartum anxiety, struggled with breastfeeding, survived sleepless nights, and learned firsthand just how much motherhood can ask of us.

Those experiences are a big part of why I care so deeply about the mothers I work with. I know how powerful it can be to have someone in your corner who truly listens, takes your concerns seriously, and reminds you that you matter in this journey, too.

If someone was asked to describe you what would they say…… She is silly—like, really silly. She loves her babies…and pretty much any baby, for that matter. She’s genuine, down-to-earth, and cares deeply about mamas and their postpartum experience. She feels incredibly lucky to walk alongside so many women as they find their way through motherhood.
